Cat Qubits

A cat qubit is a special type of superconducting qubit that encodes its amplitude twice with opposite phases. In other words, the cat qubit exists in the states +α and −α at the same time, invoking the comparison to Schrödinger’s cat. With this encoding, cat qubits have exponentially lower bit-flip error rates and linearly higher phase-flip error rates compared to standard superconducting qubits.
