Quantum sensing readies to be the 21st century's surveillance leap
Quantum sensors, which can detect ultra-precise data, are being developed for a range of applications from smart building monitoring to intelligence gathering and navigation. These devices include quantum gravimeters, quantum inertial navigation, and quantum radio frequency sensors, and could play a key role in defining warfare and intelligence gathering in the 21st century.
A quantum leap in timing
So much of modern life relies on GPS that it has been estimated that an outage would cost the U.S. economy over $1 billion per day. Highly accurate, deployable quantum clocks may enable a reliable and stable time source independent of GPS, allowing precise navigation even when GPS is unavailable, denied, or otherwise contested. Optical clocks are expected to overcome the limitations of GPS and transform industries through the precision of timing.
